comparison shopping
i squeeze a dozen avocados
wanting one for tonight's meal.
i check milk dates
wanting one that will last.
i eye the lines
wanting one that is short.
i consider my son
wanting one who won't complicate.
i shop the aisles of Plato's cave
judging shadows
when, really, it is i
dancing darkly on the wall.
